Something We Would Both Have, Something We Would Both Use, and Something We Would Both Wear are a tool bag, tool roll, and work apron respectively, assembled with parts from deconstructed handbags belonging to my mother. Careful dismantling of the original objects reveals the folds, creases, marks, and surface wear - the memories embedded from her using them. Considerations for elements that we shared in our sense of taste, as well as our distinct individual preferences, inform aspects of the overall designs. Through the various processes to transform her handbag parts into raw materials and subsequently into the final forms, the markings I made from pencil and tools were purposely left visible. These are the memories I created, revealing my considerations, indecisions, ruminations, care, and handling. Reforming these materials into objects that serve distinct and meaningful functions in my daily life allows me to continue transferring my memories through direct use. Although the original objects and their designated functions may alter over time, the memories from my mother, and from myself, become intrinsic to the material and remain as the heirloom to pass on.
